LBR Urges Repeal Of Business Registration Act

MONROVIA, April 4 (LINA) – The Registrar General of the Liberia Business Registry (LBR) in Monrovia has called for the repeal of the Business Registration Act and delegate all business registration related functions to the LBR.

Mr. Abu Kamara pointed out that this is necessary to avoid the duplication of functions by other government ministries and agencies, like the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that registers businesses as well.

He said when that is done, the LBR will launch a massive awareness campaign on business registration throughout the country.

Kamara noted that business registration requires money, and, therefore, appealed to government for an allotment of US$250,000 to make the Registry more functional.

He is, at the same time, calling for the  rehiring of the Norway Registers Development SA (NRD) to upgrade or render some support services to the LBR by incorporating into the LBR system, some important features that were never captured during the designing and creation of the system.

In another development, Mr. Kamara has commended the Minister of Commerce and Industry, Axel M. Addy, for representing the interest of LBR in securing funds for the day-to-day operation of the registry.

Kamara said despite the fact that the Registry has been faced with financial constraints since it became operational in 2011, the system continues to function effectively without any major technological glitches that may stall the formalization processes of business enterprises.
