BAIP in cooperation with AccessData organized a discussion about computer forensics and advanced persistent threats defence techniques for government and private companies. The seminar took place in Vilnius, Lithuania on the 18th October. The initiative to create an informal environment for discussions about the ‘invisible enemy’ was positively met by many cyber security and forensics specialists who got actively engaged in the topic. The event popularity indicates that computer forensics is a hot subject in the cyber-security area.
Gintaras Čiurlionis (Ministry of the Interior) presented the development of computer forensics in the EU, while Gintaras Donela and Linas Markūnas from Forensic Science Center of Lithuania reviewed forensics investigations in Lithuania. AccessData representatives Abdeslam Afras and Faisal Habib introduced and demonstrated AccessData advanced computer forensics tools.

The aim of Lithuanian cyber security development programme for the period of 2011-2019 is to ensure the security of the cyber space for Lithuanian residents, organisations and the state. Therefore, it is necessary to improve the situation of electronic information security and it is especially important to train cyber security specialists. Increasing the number of professional computer lawyers and the amount of research done in the field of computer law is also essential. Finally, several modern digital crime investigation laboratories in Lithuania are to be established by the year 2019.
Science and business cooperation to find effective solutions and create next generation products is vital for reaching these targets. Therefore, BAIP is going to cooperate with Kaunas University of Technology and other academic institutions where digital forensics courses are going to be delivered.
Dr. Vilius Benetis looked at computer forensics and law enforcement needs from the perspective of Lithuanian cyber security programme. He said: ‘the need to ensure IT security in both private and governmental organisations is very high. Therefore our clients want to receive up to date information about the innovative IT security solutions and increase their capabilities.
