Vilnius, Lithuania, 13th March 2013 BAIP, the leading Baltic IT critical infrastructure company working and developing the cyber-security expertise in the areas of East Africa together with its sister company NRD AS launched an initiative with one of the largest technical universities in the Baltic States – Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) – to make KTU a centre of digital forensics studies. BAIP cyber security team worked with KTU to design the curriculum, and KTU will receive a license to use industry-standard Forensic Toolkit® (FTK®) technology from world-renowned vendor, AccessData Group. As part of this project, these organisations will contribute to the implementation of the Lithuanian cyber security development programme for the period of 2011-2019.

AccessData Account Executive for Central & Eastern Europe Artem Kruzhilin said that by cooperating with academic institutions like KTU and by assisting in the education of the next generation of forensics professionals, AccessData seeks to play a critical role in the reduction of cybercrime. “We have employed a similar practice in other academic institutions, in other countries, and this approach has been very successful. Students receive all the necessary skills at university, and after graduation, they are already capable of working with industry standard technologies”.

AccessData is the only vendor that offers digital forensic solutions for static, volatile and network data. The company’s FTK computer forensics platform is well known around the world for its dependability, intuitive interface, superior analysis and customizable data views. It is capable of processing massive volumes of data, and supports the broadest range of file types, file systems and email types. Also, unlike other forensics tools, it provides powerful decryption, extensive analysis of volatile data and RAM, and enterprise-class capabilities, such as remote acquisition.

“This trilateral project is very important for us. It will create especially good conditions for the development of digital forensics competency. We hope that both the university and the community of Lithuanian forensic professionals will feel the benefits”, said Dean of the KTU informatics department Professor Eduardas Bareiša.

“By encouraging the education of the academic society on the questions of cyber security, we seek to contribute to the creation of a strong, well-informed class of forensics professionals, equipped with the newest technology. Academics, being neutral, perform a very important part in research and preparing the state’s capacity to defend against cyber attacks. We hope that in the future, the number of similar partnerships will grow, and other educational institutions will follow in the footsteps of KTU”, explained BAIP CEO Kazimieras Tonkūnas.
